Job Description

Responsible for the allocation of surplus capacity (exports) and the servicing of deficit markets (imports) of white cement (clinker and/or cement), Cementitious (GBFS, GGBFS, Fly Ash, etc) and Raw Material in AMERICA.
 

The Trading Manager America will analyze and monitor the Cementitious and other RAW MATERIALS markets in AMERICA to understand trends and developments regarding availability and usage of those products, transferring this knowledge into a consistent strategy. Also, will ensuring access to those products by developing relationships to potential key suppliers to be able to meet the supply needs of CEMEX operations requiring so, as well as getting involved in third party trading.

Main Responsibilities

  • Execute the sales and purchase of white cement, Cementitious and other RAW MATERIALS in AMERICA in line with country requirements and the annual global budget.
  • Find best alternative import/export solutions to maximize overall company profitability.
  • Coordinate with Shipping, Logistics, Operations, via regular weekly meetings, to ensure accurate forecasting and smooth operational performance.
  • Create and execute the White Cement, Cementitious and other RAW MATERIALS strategic agenda of AMERICA.
  • Identify and execute new business opportunities. Open new business lines (investments), new product portfolio and new markets to entry as well as to assess global initiatives.
  • Negotiate and oversee the execution of major contracts both internally and with third parties.
  • Identify new sources and clients.
  • Oversee regional transfer prices/imposition of penalties and the resolution of any disputes with Operations in accordance with Trading Guidelines.
  • Conduct Market Intelligence and Market Research within the region to support the global Trading Strategy.

Position Challenges

  • Understanding the Cementitious and other RAW MATERIALS strategy of each CX-country in quite detailed way (restrictions, challenges etc.) incl. technical and economic aspects.
  • Open new markets and clients as these products are a niche market but with huge potential to expand.
  • Maintain long term contracts with suppliers of Cementitious and other RAW MATERIALS.
  • Keeping the independence of the function within CEMEX. Trading only serves to CEMEX as a global company and not to the interest of any specific country operation. This sometimes requires a lot of tact when dealing internally in order to keep focus on what the real goal is: bringing the best to the company´s interest and to its shareholders.

Qualifications

  • Languages: English and Spanish 100% // French will be a plus.
  • Level of Education: Master Degree (MBA, Master International Business, etc). Bachelor degree is mandatory too (Area of Study: Engineer, Economic, Management & Administration, International Business).
  • Experience: in Trading/Commercial within an international context, including 2-3 years of managerial position. Also, it will be a plus to have general knowledge about cement operation AND RAW MATERIALS.
  • Other Skills or Requirements:
    • Willingness to travel extensively on his/her own.
    • Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
    • Working under pressure and ability to interact with people at all levels.
    • International Trade knowledge (payment instruments, Incoterms, etc…) would be advisable.
