Hybrid: This position requires to work 3 days on site 2 days at home remote on a full-time basis

What you will do:

This role involves a high level of independent judgment, initiative, creativity, and the management of multiple estimates that focus specifically on identifying accurate cost estimates as well as proposed cost reductions. The Cost Engineer will have exposure to the next generation of automotive vehicles while working with leading edge automotive experts and technologies. Key Responsibilities include:
- The candidate should be able to analyze, organize, and understand large amounts of data.
- Comprehensive manufacturing process knowledge is required. An understanding of regional difference in manufacturing processes / assumptions is helpful.
- Be an active partner with the internal GPSC purchasing team – aid in providing a fair yet competitive component cost for GM.
- Occasional domestic travel to supplier facilities for enhanced costing collaboration and support of the specific engineering / purchasing team.
- Support the assigned GM SMT from a tooling and piece price perspective.

Cost Engineer - Cost and Data Analysis Systems Specialist (administrator and developer) - Vehicle Material Cost and Vendor Tooling  

The Material Cost and Vendor Tooling Cost and Data Analysis Systems Specialist (AKA Costing Systems Administrator/Developer or CSAD) is responsible for proposing, developing and maintaining current and new cost and data analysis tools/systems for the Program Product Cost Optimization group in General Motors. It is also responsible to create, analyze and validate component material costs and vendor tooling targets and generate ground-up / detailed material cost estimates that encompass both piece price estimations and production tooling estimations as required. Collaboration with key internal cross functional peers and external software suppliers is essential; the selected candidate will have a working relationship with the IT team, the cost estimation team, the cost knowledge management team, the value chain engineering team and, to an extent, with the cost estimation software supplier. This role involves a high level of initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and the management of multiple projects at the same time. The goal of the position is to develop systems that create standard processes and deliver six sigma cost models. The selected candidate will have exposure to the next generation of automotive vehicles while working with leading edge automotive experts and technologies. 

Key Responsibilities include: 

- The candidate should be able to analyze, organize, and understand large amount of data. 

- The candidate should be able to create programs in Excel Visual Basic (VBA), Python, and PBI dashboard reports.   

- The candidate will maintain, implement, and enhance current and new software used to perform cost estimations. 

- The candidate should be able to mentor Cost Estimators on how to use data analysis to simplify their current job.   

- The candidate should be able to generate ground-up / detailed material cost estimates that encompass both piece price estimations and production tooling estimations as required.    

- Comprehensive manufacturing process and Vendor Tooling knowledge is required. An understanding of regional differences in manufacturing processes and vendor tooling is also required.   

- Be an active partner with the internal GPSC Cost Knowledge Management team.  

- Occasional domestic or international travel to GM facilities for training and enhanced costing collaboration and support of the specific PPCO and VCE team.   

Qualifications  

Required Skills: 

- Experience in the financial evaluation of technical concepts and comprehensive understanding of production processes.  An understanding of automotive industry trends that are occurring within the field regarding new technologies, autonomous driving, electrification, and additive manufacturing is a plus.  

- Demonstrated ability to use advanced programing software and show an expertise in PBI.  Ability to use / learn Cost Estimation commercially available software. 

- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and complexity.  

- Ability to lead change, resolve conflicts, and influence without direct authority.  

- Able to assimilate a large amount of cost data and clearly condense / communicate information to the larger GM team in an efficient way.  

- Analytical ability to solve problems that are unique and sometimes complex.  Ability to use data driven analysis to identify solutions and establish next steps to assigned projects.    

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with global team members and cross functional peers.  

Experience / Educational Qualification  

- At least 8 years relevant experience in automotive cost estimating, automotive manufacturing, automotive product design / engineering, automotive purchasing or data analytics. 

Required Qualifications: 

- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related / relevant field of study. 

- A Graduate’s degree in Data Analytics or Master of Business Administration/Finance with concentration in Statistical Modeling Data is an absolute requirement.    

Preferred Skills: 

Experience with any of the following: 

- Development of supplier component quotes to OEM’s 

- Manufacturing and or launch experience in an automotive setting (OEM, tier 1 or tier 2 environment).   

- A broad knowledge of manufacturing processes including, but not limited to casting, forging, machining, stamping, assembly.  An understanding of expected manufacturing cost factors such as labor, burden, and material as well as commercial items such as SG&A and profit is a plus.
