The objective of this position is to manage, direct and control the delivery of the Equipment Packages within LZC2 expansion project (Lazaro Cárdenas, México). This includes all container handling equipment in the project. What are the main responsibilities of this role?
  • Assure functional and operational requirements are properly translated into Employer´s requirements.
  • Drive and lead the equipment fabrication, delivery, commissioning, and integration – in line with the project’s scope, timeline, quality, budget and objectives.
  • Directly manage – through Crane Engineering Services (CES)– the main equipment supplies.
  • Participation in tender and procurement processes of the equipment in close cooperation with Procurement Team as per Operation requirements.
  • Directly manage all other equipment and its installation, not managed through CES.
  • Closely work and regularly align with terminal AM Team, tap into terminal knowledge and experience, consult with terminal Equipment Manager when needed.
  • Propose improvements regarding the technical set-up of the equipment and installation systems, based on:
    • Terminal requirements, and
    • The approved project business case baseline.
  • Manage all changes to the Equipment scope, schedule and budget.
  • Closely work with IT&Automation and Civil&Construction managers to make sure the Civil-IT interphase in project perfectly aligns with level of automation intended.
  • Support IT&Automation manager on administrative tasks in relation to the Contract for Automation with the APMT´s selected vendor.
  • Ensure vendors and contractors involved in commissioning comply with HSSE requirements.
Elaboration of overall responsibilities
  • Act as primary APMT point of contact on-site coordinating and communicating towards CES, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.

  • Manage the Equipment deliveries, supervise on-site works and control progress in a transparent manner (fabrication and delivery are the contractors’ and suppliers’ responsibilities).
  • Together with Asset Delivery Team, influence decision making processes on the Equipment aspects of the project and cross-functionally advise the Interface, Civil and IT Managers.
  • Maintain awareness of E&I requirements, risks and changes. Track progress and liaise with terminal and project teams.
  • Support the Contracts Manager with the administration of the Equipment and Automation contracts.
Safety
  • Ensure that delivery, commissioning and equipment integration processes comply with safety, health and environment local regulations and APM Terminals standards and values early in the project.
  • Actively promote safety and assume a visible leadership role on the construction site and support that all staff maintain full awareness of safety as a priority.
  • Monitor compliance by all contractors and suppliers to APM Terminals’ safety standards and policies in cooperation with the on-site HSSE manager.
Construction controls & governance
  • Track Equipment delivery progress against the approved baseline and, where appropriate, ensure issues are pro-actively addressed, resolved and/or escalated and reported.
  • Analyze schedules, assess delays and propose mitigation and corrective measures, before they impact on equipment delivery, commissioning and integration..
  • Ensure and anticipate CES, contractors and suppliers fulfil their roles under the contracts, timely escalate issues to Technical Lead when necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the processes for future consultations and references.
Communications
  • Ensure clear communication within project and terminal technical teams.
  • Ensure consistent input into project progress meetings and reporting.
  • Meet regularly with CES, contractors and suppliers to maintain full awareness of issues which may impact safety, scope, progress, interfaces, milestones and/or budget.
  • Build working relations with CES, contractors and suppliers to influence the good outcome of delivering a terminal ready for operations.
  • Build collaborative relationships with associated divisions and external parties.
Elaboration of critical interfaces
  • Work closely with Automation, IT,and Civil Managers ensuring that:
  • dependencies from elements outside own responsibility (e.g. operations, commercial, legal, Civil, IT, etc) affecting asset delivery are well understood, and
  • the Automation, IT and Civil Managers understand impacts of changes towards asset delivery.
What are we looking for?
  • Higher level education in Mechanical or Crane Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in an equipment and installations engineering and/or projects related environment.
  • Project or package management experience.
  • The person should have managed various large-scale equipment and/or installation projects or packages and with clear responsibility on achieving safety, time and budget targets.
  • It is an advantage when the candidate has good knowledge of the port/container terminal business and container handling equipment.
Skills
  • Have a strong understanding of equipment and installations combined with technical engineering skills.
  • Team player, able to collaborate and align on regular basis. Collaboration and alignment with terminal and project functions are key to success.
  • Excellent communication skills, where sufficient level of English is a must, and Spanish speaking is an advantage.
  • Persuasive, being able to influence colleagues, contractors and suppliers in order to reach the project goals.
  • Driven, self-motivating, result orientated and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • High discipline – following through on actions and ensuring necessary documentation.
  • Ability to motivate and develop employees to create a performance driven organization.
  • High quality awareness and ability to work with constant care.
  • Sensitive to cultural diversity and experience in a multicultural environment, regarding colleagues, employees of contractors and suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with Electronic Data Management/Document Control system
