Job Description

GSC&S Projects is a team within Global Supply Chain and Strategy (GSC&S) in Operations, which leads global and multi-regional business Projects and programmes affecting the AZ commercial supply chain and Operations.

GSC&S Projects has specific accountability for business programmes and projects that require cross-region or cross-Operations leadership and coordination, initiated from strategic decisions from within AstraZeneca as well as ground-breaking regulatory and legislative changes.

Examples of such programs are Post Approval Changes that impact multiple sites, Post Deal Transitions, Asset Establishment and Divestment and Legislative driven programs impacting the supply chain.

The role holder will have specific accountability to lead and deliver sophisticated Global Supply Chain programmes to deliver defined business benefits and support broader Global Operations and AstraZeneca change Projects and programmes.

Accountabilities

Lead international and cross-functional business Projects and programmes, involving establishing and leading global project teams in accordance with the AZ Ops Programme Management Guideline and Project Management Framework (PMF) as well as Change Management Framework (CMF) to govern and deliver project objectives efficiently and effectively. Projects can be groundbreaking and may include responsibility for managing budgets and a team of sub project managers and specialists.

Deal with a wide range of sophisticated problems that require well developed conceptual thinking and judgement to find solutions, which are often innovative.

Overcome problems which have not been encountered previously and where there is no precedent. This will often involve accessing external resources for advice and finding new ways of working. Problems encountered will be complex, requiring consideration of a diverse range of factors (e.g., financial, legal, fiscal, compliance, technical, political and personnel).

Identify risks and propose solutions balancing business needs and costs with a range of issues.

Communicate effectively at various levels (up to EVP (Executive Vice President)) and across distinct functions within the organization, and with key collaborators to negotiate and influence the beliefs, opinions, and behaviors of others over a range of issues. This will require well-developed collaborator management skills and cultural sensitivity.

Develop a wide network of contacts, internally (across several functions and regionally/globally) and externally.

As required, act as a representative of the function within AstraZeneca and of the company externally.

Contribute to standardizing, continuously improving, developing, and managing our frameworks and business processes. Lead global and cross-functional Projects and programmes establishing and leading global project teams.

Requirements

  • Experience of leading Transformational Business Programmes in a global and complex matrix environment with proven delivery using project and Change management methodologies.
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, the pharmaceutical industry including experience in at least one of the following areas: Supply chain or Manufacturing management, Product Divestment, Asset and Supply Chain establishment. Plus, additional experience in Logistics & Distribution, Quality Assurance, Engineering, IT, or Finance is valuable.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and partnering skills, and application of collaborator management to VP (Vice President) level or higher.
  • Ability to operate independently and make sound business decision with limited information available.
  • Ability to manage cultural differences sensitively and negotiate different interests.
  • Supply chain management experience and knowledge of supporting processes is highly valued.
  • Educated to degree level in a scientific, engineering or business field.
  • Line management experience and knowledge about the organization and operating models within Operations are additional benefits.
