Jr Metallurgical Engineer

What you’ll do:

PRIMARY FUNCTION
A. Develop and implement manufacturing processes for new products and continuous improvement.
B. Support production activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Analyze problems and supervise corrections related to machine capability and production rates (OEE). Maintain and improve current manufacturing processes to produce parts to specification
B. Actively participate or champion in the continuous improvement process of the plant. Reduce high-risk priority numbers in JSA analysis and manufacturing PFMEA´s. Implement cost-savings in manufacturing to reduce waste including corrective actions to make an immediate impact to business results.
C. Champion key initiatives for the plant and utilize EBS to achieve plant goals. Implement ELS tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Continuous Flow Manufacturing, Setup Reduction, 5s, etc.
D. Train and inform cell technicians on current process techniques and new manufacturing concepts in order to ensure a safe operation, high quality standards and productivity. Train and educate operators to optimize use of new and transferred equipment. Initiate and maintain process sheets for each step of the manufacturing process. Evaluate cell technicians based on the manufacturing requirements according to OJT levels.
E. Support PROLaunch - Participating in aspects related to manufacturing of new released components or assemblies. Review and evaluate new products, processes equipment and facility proposal. Lead and execute installation, runoff, and startup of transferred and new equipment. Complete runoffs and PPAP´s on time according to established schedules.
F. Define max/min supply of all related items to equipment, such as spare parts and other supplies.
G. Comply with requirements of the Quality System. Implement mistake proofing tooling and process. Complete runoffs of new machinery and tooling reaching quality standards (MCA, R&R, calibration process etc.).
H. Champion multi-disciplinary teams in activities related to manufacturing issues.
I. Lead, facilitate and coordinate production activities and resources according to established proactive and/or policies within their job area to ensure the timely delivery or quality parts that meet or exceed customer expectations.
J. Establishes and identify best layout distribution.
K. Directs the Increased use of systems approaches that integrate engineering, automation, ergonomic & environmental issues and information technology in the workplace.
L. Implements, promotes and maintains a safe work environment by implementing a culture of accidents prevention, investigation, equipment maintenance and application of rules. Identify, control and administer risk and danger in own area.
M. Promotes the company’s mission and vision by actively supporting Eaton’s ethics and values as well as quality policies.

Qualifications:

A. Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, manufacturing, mechanical engineer required.

B. 2-3 years’ experience applying metallurgical tools in a manufacturing environment, automotive preferred.

C. Experience in welding, shot peening and heat treatment processes.

D. English language at a conversational level required.

E. AWS Certified Welding Inspector or ASM certification would be a plus.

F. Six Sigma Greenbelt would be a plus.

G. Statistics and problem-solving technics

H. Strong communication skills

I. Knowledges of metallurgy, heat treat process, equipment of metallurgical laboratory and its applications.
J. Thorough knowledge of statistics & statistical process control.

K. Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerance (GD&T) principles

L. Strong knowledge of AIAG, IATF 16949 standards and specific requirements such as CQI-9 and CQI-15.

M. Proficiency in problem solving & quality techniques including:
o SPC
o PFMEA- Control Plan
o PPAP
o 8-D problem solving
o APQP
o MSA
o Capability Analysis
o Problem Solving

N. Knowledge of Automotive Standards and Supplier Quality Manuals.

O. Knowledge in internal cracks inspection by magnaflux would be a plus.

P. Knowledges in tools for the manufacture of gears.
