R&D Early Career Rotational Program 2024

The ABB Discovery (LEAD) R&D program is designed to recruit, grow, and retain the highest technical talent to become the next generation of leaders and innovators in ABB. The program is designed to develop technical problem-solving skills through advanced courses in engineering & technical projects that are aligned with business objectives. The ABB Discovery (LEAD) R&D program is a customizable 2-year experience that gives trainees exposure to a variety of work experiences across different locations within the Electrification Business. Rotation placement is based on matching business needs with participants’ interests and skills. Typical rotation options include Mechanical Design Engineer, Test Engineer, Electrical Component Engineer, and Project Lead. Working on products such as Industrial Switchgear and Circuit Breakers, Residential Circuit Breakers, and DC Power Converters. In addition to completing 4 6-month rotations, participants will complete 4 semesters of specifically tailored coursework, gaining 6 credits towards a master’s degree. As well as complete a business scoping project to pitch to business leaders to ask for funding. ABB Discovery (LEAD) R&D is a great option for engineers who have a passion for technology, design, and innovation. Participants can expect to gain an array of challenging and meaningful experiences in their rotations across ABB Electrification that capture both the technical roots of ABB as well as people leadership and project management skills. Post-program career paths include Both technical and management track roles within the R&D organization. The R&D program is designed to give you a strong technical base and expose you to many aspects of the Electrification business positioning you to kick of an exciting career within the R&D org.

  • Specific job responsibilities will vary among program and rotation placement, but all ABB Discovery (LEAD) participants should expect to:
  • Learn about themselves and ABB’s global business.
  • Engage with ABB leaders including rotation managers and mentors who will help them develop their technical and leadership skills.

  • Your background

  • Major: Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science and Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Recent graduate with no more than 2 years of work experience is a must (Internship work experience is also considered).
  • Excited to explore living/working in different parts of Mexico and available to relocate for opportunities. Relocation assistance is provided.
  • Desire to learn and grow from a diverse set of experiences and people.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude, grit, and professionalism.
