As a Senior Postgres/SQL Server DBA you will be responsible for automate installing and maintaining the Postgres and SQL Server database software and standard scripts, in Mexico City. In this role, a typical day will include:
IT Systems Software Analysis & Programming focuses on programming & configuration of IT Systems Software (i.e. software for use in operating/controlling hardware and providing a platform for running internal end user/business applications)
- Identifying and analyzing business needs, conducting requirements gathering, and defining scope and objectives for the IT System
- Developing programming specifications, diagrams, and flowcharts
- Writing code in lower-level programming languages to optimize the performance and efficiency of an organization’s IT platform/infrastructure
- Configuring, customizing, diagnosing, and enhancing vendor systems software (e.g., operating systems software and utilities that manage access to peripherals, facilitate networking, manage memory allocation, manage file storage on hard drives, etc.)
- Writing diagnostic programs to test integrated software/hardware systems and resolve system faults
- Creating functional and technical documentation of systems software programs and code
- Automate installing and maintaining the Postgresql and sql database software and standard scripts
- Automate storage database structures with high-level security features
- Finding and debugging malfunctioning programs affecting the database integrity and performance
- Requires troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Conducting root cause analysis and providing feedback on corrective action(s)
- Develop and document database version roadmap and upgrade strategies
- Document new processes and procedures when appropriate
- Regularly reviewing and updating standards for database security protocols and ensuring that gaps are addressed
- Create/manage shell scripts to perform Unix/Linux server tasks for DBs
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
- 5+ years of Relevant Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
- Experience managing or Leading a team
- English proficiency required
- Working knowledge of source code management (git, CVS, BitBucket)
- Ability to write scripts to perform functions across multiple servers
- Proven work experience as a Database administrator with Postgresql in a Unix/Linux environment
- Familiarity with Postgresql database design, coding, and documentation
- Proven work experience as a Database administrator with SQL Server in a windows environment
- Knowledge of database backup procedures, recovery systems, and SQL.
- Knowledge of programming languages and API
- Working knowledge of Postgresql utilities including: psql, pgAdmin, Ora2pg & pgBackrest
- Working knowledge of source code management (git, BitBucket)
- Experience migrating from Oracle to Postgres
