Responsibilities

 

 

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.

 

  • Applies technical Structural Engineering concepts to analyze building and non-building structures.
  • Designs structural systems to efficiently support code loads including detailed connections.
  • Communicates solutions to complex Structural Engineering problems clearly for engineering staff, project managers, and clients.
  • Reviews engineering work of engineering team members to confirm design adequacy.
  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems, practices, and methods and may create and refine unique design solutions.
  • Acts as the engineer in responsible charge including stamping of drawings/calculations developed by the Structural Engineering team.
  • Represents SSOE in meetings and presentations to resolve important questions and coordinate the project accordingly.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a medium to large engineering projects or a number of smaller complex projects with overall responsibility for budget control, schedule adherence, quality assurance, and inter-discipline coordination.
  • Responsible for the review and response to submittals and RFIs regarding materials, design modification, and field construction as appropriate.
  • May serve as technical specialist requiring specialized knowledge of advanced engineering techniques.
  • Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, policy matters, and/or unusual problems and developments.
  • May supervise, coordinate, and review the work of a team of engineers and designers working on the same assigned project.
  • Defines project scope of work and organizes into manageable tasks.
  • Provides supervisor and project manager with scope of work change warnings.
  • Maintains continuing professional education in discipline.
  • Takes part in client contact and business development activities.

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Eleven (11) or more years of related practical experience with former employer(s)
  • Experience in complex industrial and commercial projects
  • Experience with steel and concrete structural design/calculations
  • Experience as project leader in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Título and Cédula are mandatory
  • Preferred: Registered as a Professional Civil Engineer and/or Professional Structural Engineer
  • Experience in industrial and commercial projects
  • Experience in project coordination
  • Advanced English skills
