The Opportunity

This position works out of our Westford, MA location in the Vascular division

Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive, and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease.

Responsible for providing Optical and electro-Optical Engineering support in the creation and the development of new medical device products (invasive and non-invasive).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates optical and electro-optical materials, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment.

• Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.

• Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.

• Directs support personnel and coordinates project activities.

• Write and submit intellectual property (patents).

• Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.

• Investigates and evaluates existing technologies.

• Lead the design and development, integration, and test of next-generation optical coherence tomography systems.

• Serve as an optics subject matter expert for the technical community.

•Leads systematic approaches to troubleshooting problems and executing resolutions

• Communicates effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.  Successfully influences key stake holders. Keeps leadership informed of progress and issues

• Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and other applicable regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments

• Reviews or coordinates vendor activities to support development.

• Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.

• Participates in the development of less experienced staff by setting an example, providing guidance and work direction, and offering counsel.

• May lead a project team.

• Participates in determining goals and objectives for projects.

• Influences middle management on technical or business solutions.

• May interact with vendors.

• Plans and organizes non-routine tasks w/approval.

• Initiates or maintains work schedule.

• Establishes priorities of work assignments.

• Exercises judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution.

• Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Optics Engineering, Laser Optics Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • A minimum of BS + 6+ years of progressively more responsible work experience in lasers, electro-optics applications using a variety of development and process methods.
  • Advanced degree (PhD + 0 yrs, MS+ 3 yrs) and/or professional certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or Python

Preferred Qualifications

  • C++ a plus
  • Med Device Experience
  • PhD

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
