Position Summary:
The Technical Application Scientist 1 (TAS1) role provides technical direction and support to our Next Generation Sequencing and Microarray customers on technical and service-related issues as well as demonstrating uses and advantages of our products. The role is highly cross functional and works closely with our Field Service Engineers, Field Application Scientists and Sales.
This role will be supporting customers in Canada, the US and Latin America, and will predominately be working Pacific Standard Time, 8 am to 5 pm.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Develop technical mastery of Illumina’s sequencing instrument portfolio, Sequencing by Synthesis (SBS) and Microarray technology.
  • Professionally, efficiently and conclusively triage, troubleshoot and resolve technical questions by phone and email for internal and external customers.
  • Independently research and provide resolutions to customers’ questions and concerns.
  • Collaborate within a team of support scientists to find optimal solutions to customers’ complex technical challenges.
  • Assist customers with the design and interpretation of Next Generation Sequencing and Microarray experiments and analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding the choice and use of the appropriate Illumina product to existing and prospective customers
  • Triage and dispatch issues requiring field support to Illumina Engineers and Applications Scientists
  • Log and manage customer issues using Illumina’s issue-tracking database
Position Desirables:
  • Hands-on laboratory experience using, developing or troubleshooting a wide range of molecular biology protocols, including Next Generation Sequencing and Microarray
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills required
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and skills a must
  • Willing to travel up to 10%
Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:
  • M.S or B.S. plus 2 years relevant lab experience in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics or related field
  • You must be fluent in English. Proficiency in French is a plus
  • Prior commercial experience is a plus
  • Experience working in any service role desired
