Job Description:
Provide active, ongoing day-to-day testing support. This HANDS-ON position will support small tonnage
Screw and scroll units. The Test Engineer will “manage” a test throughout the process from test design
and planning through execution to completion including analysis of data results and presentation of the
data to external JCI customers. Ideally this individual will possess multiple backgrounds that include a
working knowledge of screw and scroll chillers and related test facility operation, and other applicable
technologies so they can singularly manage the testing process for individual test. This position may
provide Test engineering support for standard and non-standard contract witness testing.
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:
• Under general/minimal supervision/direction, operate with a high degree of independence on individual
projects geared to efficient and successful planning and execution of tests.
• Able to handle several concurrent projects while providing ongoing, day-to-day, hands-on test
guidance, test data review and analysis, and interacting with external customers.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
• Able to work in fast-paced, schedule driven work environment. Possess the agility/adaptability to
quickly move from one task to another when required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), as well as Internet
software and E-mail is required finally LabVIEW operation.
• Understanding of refrigeration systems and concepts
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
• Interfaces with the customer for factory witness test and factory operation partners to solve some
productions issues.
• Plans and executes tests of screw and scroll chillers. The individual:
o Communicates with the sales engineer to disseminate and agree upon test plans.
o Creates test request detail of what conditions to be run to meet customer’s needs.
§ Uses in-house rating program to determine chiller rated performance.
§ Performs calculations to simulate the effects of fouling.
o Acquires and provides input and set up data acquisition software.
o Diagnoses and resolves issues with chiller if chiller will not operate or meet
performance requirement.
o Diagnoses and resolves issues with the data acquisition system.
o Communicates results and resolution of issues with sales engineer and external
customer.
o Provides a summary of testing results to product engineering for further analysis.
• Presents to customers the design and set up of the lab function.
• Presents to customers methods and records for calibration of instrumentation
• Presents to customers an overview of AHRI and Eurovent testing procedures and tolerances.
• Works with sales engineers and customers to resolve concerns or misunderstanding in regard to
testing.
• Participates in the revision of standard procedures, test Standards and processes.
• Uses experience to develop or recommend the development of new procedures, processes or
resources geared to provide more efficient, accurate, or advanced testing services.

BSEE/ME (or EET/MET) or related physical science.
• Ability to write and speak in the English language.
• A minimum of four (4) years direct work experience in small tonnage screw and scroll chiller
equipment development testing, including a good understanding of HVAC/R systems, concepts,
and diagnostics, as applied to both test subjects and test facilities.
• A background in engineering and testing, with use of a variety of test instrumentation to perform
test data acquisition and data analysis, test troubleshooting and diagnostics, technical reporting,
and related communication at various levels is required.
• Certain related experience may be considered a plus. Specific areas, as applied to HVAC/R
equipment:
o Electronics/software (esp. starters, variable frequency drives, control systems).
o Sound and/or vibration testing – instrumentation, acquisition/analysis software. (esp.
MAARS; Bently Nevada; Bruel & Kjaer).
o General test data acquisition and sensors – hardware, software (esp. LabVIEW,
National Instruments).
