Job description

Job Summary:

Reporting to the LAM Head of Corporate Sustainability, the Net Zero Transition VP will have the following responsabilitues : Strategy and Planing as well as well as CoE support

Main Responsabilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Become an expert in the Sustainability Group Strategy and how that translates regionally and locally.
  • Understand deeply our purpose as an institution, our values, and the key pillars of our strategy.
  • Support the elaboration of relevant Regional and Country Strategic plans and related side activities to ensure execution as required.
  • Support the execution of strategic projects, including managing logistics and coordinating relevant activities and events
  • Elaborate detailed, high-quality governance papers and presentation decks and communications as required.
  • Proactively drive and support collaboration plans and related actions to ensure the LAM Region acts as one joined up bank across businesses and functions and realize relevant synergies.
  • Support in the coordination of businesses and functions to collaborate to capture relevant sustainability activity including any Sustainability Forums in place.
  • Develop an expertise regarding sustainability knowledge.

 CoE Support

  • Collaborates and builds relationships across businesses and functions to gain internal alignment and ensure understanding of the opportunities and risks associated with the Transition to a low carbon economy.
  • Serve as a “go to person” to the business and functions on climate policy, ESG, sustainable finance and responsible investing, working closely with the LAM Head of Corporate Sustainability, and Global Sustainability Centre of Excellence.
  • Identify opportunities for low carbon revenue growth. Remain aware of and develop new strategies to respond to market developments and position HSBC as a leader in sustainable finance and Net Zero in LAM.
  • Build, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, to support client advisory and position HSBC as a leader in market.
  • Work with the businesses, communications, marketing, public affairs and other departments to effectively communicate Transition to Net Zero activity across key internal and external channels.
  • Prepare executive briefings, support the delivery of staff training programs, support external communication campaigns, ensure representation at relevant industry events, and promote positive brand promotion and positioning.
  • Source and coordinate delivery of thought leadership and best practice
  • Participate in key governance forums as required

Major Challenges 

  • This role is demanding and has high visibility within and outside of the organization.
  • Must use influence to work cross-functionally and vertically in complex global organization.
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and resistance and overcome challenges using SME knowledge and soft skills.
  • Support the Head of Corporate Sustainability to meet HSBC’s obligations in a manner that reflects the corporate business model, respects the spirit of any regulation, strengthens external relationships and protects and promotes the HSBC brand.
  • Work in a fast paced and evolving field, keeping a finger on the pulse of current and emerging industry trends and frameworks, changing banking regulations and new requirements as necessary to establish and/or revise strategies and plans and ensure compliance with internal and external policies and requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-5 years in a sustainability role in the financial services industry (preferably client led) OR in a role in the financial services  industry that incorporates ESG, green or sustainability considerations (e.g., ESG Analyst, Responsible Investment Advisor, Environmental Risk Manager)
  • University graduate in business, sustainability or related field
  • Sound knowledge of global sustainable finance frameworks including CDP, TCFD and global climate policy
  • Must be a strong analytical thinker. Ideal candidate will have experience analyzing corporate sustainability strategies, policies, management and performance and recommending strategies for improvement, particularly in high carbon industries
  • Must be strategic thinker, excellent road mapper and able to work with others to collectively develop and execute complex strategic plans
  • Driver of change. Adaptable and demonstrates initiative. Must be able to work independently, cope with ambiguity, quickly develop trust, negotiate effectively, navigate what is right for the Company, manage messaging and motivate others
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, advanced verbal and written communication skills, comfortable delivering presentations to executives and top clients
  • Experience working with or supporting senior executives. Must possess ability to work effectively across levels, geographies and functions in a complex global organization
  • Strong organizational, administrative and coordination skills
  • Passionate about environmental and social issues such as climate change, sustainable development, human rights, good corporate governance, etc.
  • Good team player and strong partnering skills
  • Leadership, influencing and negotiation skills
