Descripción del trabajo

This role is within the Commercial Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Mechanical Design team in GE Aerospace’s Engineering Division. The team is responsible for the design and development of CMC components within the High-Pressure-Turbine (HPT) and Combustor Module of the GE9X and LEAP Commercial Turbofan engines.
As the Advanced Lead Engineer, you will play a key role in leading and supporting projects focused on durability and fleet support for CMC HPT components. You will be responsible as an individual contributor to drive for design and manufacturing changes to meet program requirements, and you will organize and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Mechanical Design and analysis, materials engineering, data science, manufacturing, quality, and program management. You will need to implement lessons learned from other programs and new fleet findings into the next iteration of the component design. Other responsibilities for this role may include supporting component delivery efforts, assisting engine test assemblies, and improving component producibility through design and manufacturing changes.
Your technical expertise will be crucial in iterating on existing processes and design, while also providing mentorship to early-career individuals in engineering and manufacturing. In this position, you will have a considerate level of autonomy, which will require you to take ownership of the quality of your work and contribute input into setting your priorities. While executing tasks, you will need to assess your capabilities and seek guidance from your supervisor and technical mentors when necessary.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to make significant impact on the design and innovation of GE Aerospace’s products.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of hot section design, CMC design, and module integration. Build understanding as to how work of own team contributes to our commercial programs, future programs, and the CMC IPT. Foster awareness of market trends, competition, and how products are differentiated.

  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address design and manufacturing challenges. Uses on-the-job training and prior experience to solve tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

  • Manage project plans and action plans for executing on component durability maturation objectives. Lead small teams through completion of deliverables. Communicate schedule pressures and delegate tasks appropriately.

  • Determine engineering requirements for manufacturing, while being considerate of manufacturing capabilities. Develop corrective actions for manufacturing non-conformance, weigh pros-and-cons between changing manufacturing processes and/or determining sound engineering substantiation. Use fleet learnings, component test history, and comparative analysis to resolve corrective action approach.

  • Convey technical challenges and requirements to other teams. Use historical documentation of engine test findings and fleet performance, design practices, and novel analysis to drive robust engineering changes. Receive feedback of results from peers and technical experts, and document significant findings using technical rigor.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited university and 4+ years prior relevant engineering experience, OR an Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited university and 2+ years prior relevant engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; experience in influencing and leading small teams

  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills

  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated project management expertise

  • Effective problem-solving, analytical skills, and ability to make appropriate risk-based decisions

  • Ability to mentor others in resolving complex problems

  • Familiarity with hardware ownership, jet engines, hot section design, and/or combustor design.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (Unigraphics NX), GD&T, and assembly stack-ups

  • Prior involvement working RCCAs/TOPS8Ds

  • Composite design and/or manufacturing experience

  • Non-conformance review, or Material Review Board (MRB) experience
