Job Description

Define and implement a corporate strategy for a reliable, competitive, and sustainable supply of electric energy to the CEMEX global operations in alignment with the “Future in Action” program and the financial targets of the company by 2025 and 2030, achieving a transition to low-carbon energy technologies, a significant reduction in indirect carbon emissions and energy cost stability.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop together with regional cement operations a global Scope 2 emissions reduction roadmap to achieve the SBTi targets of CEMEX, reaching close to 65% renewable energy with optimal cost.
  • Mobilize the Cement Operations Global Network’s Low Carbon Energy track, to achieve faster deployment and adoption of low carbon energy generation projects and third-party energy supply contracts, and to achieve energy efficiency gains throughout cement operations.
  • Design and implement an energy risk framework to reduce energy cost volatility through implementation of long-term purchasing procedures, active hedging, and short-term operational optimization responding to electric price fluctuations.
  • Review, evaluate and define electrification and green hydrogen production technologies that would need to be tested, considered for piloting or deployed in Cement Operations that will assure Scope 1 and Scope 2 decarbonization strategy is accomplished by 2025 & 2030.

Position Challenges

  • Promote & deploy knowledge and best practices transfer between operations regarding energy procurement, project development and efficient use of energy
  • Achieve Scope 2 specific emissions of no more than 24 kgCO2/t by 2030.
  • Achieve Clean Energy share of 65% by 2030
  • Follow up regulatory developments and energy markets across all jurisdictions.
  • Develop a highly skilled energy team across operations acting as one CEMEX.
  • Grant visibility to all operations of best in class & emerging power generation technologies, energy efficiency practices and energy market operations.

Qualifications

  • Advanced English
  • Economics or Engineering background
  • Preferably Master’s degree
  • Areas of expertise: Planning, Finance
  • Experience in Energy project development, energy markets, energy trading
  • Strong presentation skills, public speaking, self-motivated, self-driven, analytical, critical thinking, planning skills
