These systems will be used in HIL settings for development, and on-vehicle installations for performance and evaluation.

Essential Functions:

  • Work as part of a team to define overall system architecture and necessary functions.
  • Schematic circuit design of ECUs with all necessary analog/digital I/O interfaces to meet electrical, dynamics, environmental, and EMC operating conditions.
  • Conduct or coordinate related PCB layout, as well as ECU enclosure design and fabrication.
  • System/wiring design to incorporate all ECUs, and implementation of the system into a HIL environment for bench testing.
  • Conduct necessary verification of systems to ensure proper communications and sub-system interaction in HIL and on-vehicle environments.
  • Design/build/test necessary interface boards for flexible system re-configuration and low-noise signal access by hardware tools such as dSPACE MicroAutoBox.
  • Develop low-level software modules for basic functionality.
  • Capture, analyze, confirm signals and messaging for proper hardware operation using troubleshooting tools, such as: logic analyzer, oscilloscope, network analyzer (e.g. Vector CANalyzer).

Knowledge:

  • Electrical design of standalone ECUs in an Automotive or Commercial Vehicle environment.
  • Understanding of Automotive and Heavy Duty Vehicles recommended practices, such as the SAE J1455 and J1113.
  • Electronics circuit design (analog and digital) in embedded standalone ECUs.
  • Troubleshooting of circuit operation in a rapid prototype setting, where robust operation and quick turnaround is a must.
  • Ability to quickly determine root cause for any issues in a HIL environment.
  • Knowledge of on-vehicle communications network protocols, such as SAE J1939 CAN.
  • Ability to perform signal and network analysis to ensure proper subsystem interaction via hardware I/O as well as network communications.
