GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the U.S.-based Vice President, Marketing Communications, and with direction from the U.S.-based Manager or Sr. Manager, Marketing Communications and departmental oversight from the Sr. Vice President, Public Relations & Corporate Communications – PTG Consulting, the Manager, Marketing Communications (Mexico) - PTG Consulting is a key interface between the company, its clients, and the media, supporting the company’s tourism practice in Mexico and the U.S.

The Manager is responsible for executing public relations and marketing activities for PTG Consulting, with the primary goal of securing positive media coverage for the company’s clients, ensuring plans are executed according to schedule, and supporting the achievement of all key performance indicators. The Manager will serve as PTG Consulting’s in-country PR liaison for its Mexico-based clients, serving as a representative at client meetings, industry events, and FAM trips, in-country, as required.

Day-to-day tasks will include writing press releases and pitches, engaging in proactive and reactive media relations, maintaining media databases, planning events and activations, organizing and hosting group and individual media FAM trips, reporting, and other administrative tasks.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

Under the direct supervision of the Vice President, Marketing Communications – PTG Consulting, and with direction from the Manager or Sr. Manager, Marketing Communications, the Manager shall liaise with PTG Consulting tourism clients and related stakeholders to support their respective activities. There is regular interaction with the entire PTG Consulting team, journalists, editors, clients, and vendors in person, via phone, and electronically.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fulfill public relations duties to include, but not limited to, serving as an informational resource for media across all categories; handling media requests; compiling activity reports for clients; securing positive media placements via active pitching via phone, email, and in-person interactions; researching, drafting, and distributing press releases and pitch documents; planning, facilitating, and hosting media group and individual FAM trips; building, organizing, and maintaining media lists.

• Support the planning and execution of media events as required by individual client plans.

• Liaise with internal resources to develop press stories that support the goals and objectives of PTG Consulting and its clients.

• Identify and formulate partnerships with external companies (i.e. consumer and media brands, tour operators, media outlets, charitable organizations, etc.) to enhance clients’ brands and extend their media awareness reach, when required by client contracts.

• Support the coordination of paid marketing activities on behalf of tourism clients such as native content programs and brand partnerships.

• Stay updated on public relations trends and use the knowledge to positively impact and improve efforts executed on behalf of PTG Consulting and its clients.

• Assist with the new business process by crafting thoughtful recommendations for PR campaigns and drafting new business decks, as needed; participate in live pitches, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Passion for travel

• Minimum 5 years of experience in public relations.

• Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal)

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Extensive knowledge of trade and consumer media outlets and journalists in the Americas covering travel and tourism

• Professional experience working with international tourism destinations

• Willingness to take on all aspects of client campaigns, no matter how large or small the task

• Ability to work well under pressure and effectively handle multiple, concurrent demands and appropriately prioritize responsibilities

• Detail-oriented self-starter

• Ability to travel

• Technology and web savvy with proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications

• B.A. or B.S. in journalism, public relations, marketing, tourism, or related field
