Job Description


Arcadis is looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support industrial construction projects in automotive sector with our Places Team business unit in our north Mexico area at the client site location in Saltillo Coahuila. This is an on-site role for a large client of the automotive sector.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with previous experience designing mechanical systems within buildings to join our Places-industrial Design Practice. In this role, you’ll be delivering/reviewing functional and efficient Mechanical Design solutions on exciting and challenging projects for key clients across sectors including Industrial Manufacturing.

The Mechanical Engineer will develop and manage projects for the construction of new or modification to existing commercial, industrial and institutional buildings & structures, ensuring conformance with building codes.  Perform responsible, professional level mechanical analysis, building and inspections. A heavy portion of this role will be focused on infrastructure and industrial projects. Project experience in this area is expected.

  • Position on a project-based contract basis with the possibility of extending it to an indefinite contract within the company
  • Full time (40 hrs pw Monday to Friday)
  • This position is located on the client’s site

Role accountabilities:

Working collaboratively with a multi-discipline team of Arcadians, you will ensure the integration of the overall design or solution. Day-to-day, you will prepare accurate drawings, specifications, reports and other project documentation and ensure that your allocated activities are completed whilst meeting budget, timeframe and quality objectives, also ensuring that client expectations are met. 

You will also be able to apply your analytical, technical writing and design skills at project level and contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects, working under the supervision of a Senior Engineer.

  • As part of the Mexico City Buildings team, you would directly collaborate with other Arcadis teams in Canada, The USA and Latin America
  • Working with the Architecture & Engineering Industrial Team in a range of architecture & engineering design projects, mainly focused on Industrial Architecture (manufacturing & automotive)
  • Design of building mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems 
  • Preparation of construction documents including calculations, drawings, reports, specifications, and details
  • Construction administration of projects with mechanical content
  • Lead projects with a supporting cast, or play a support role on very large projects as appropriate
  • Apply technical engineering techniques and methods using international design standards such as US, and Mexican Mechanical Design Codes
  • Prepare drawing markups and other design related documents
  • Oversee the project's detailed design and calculation
  • Supervise the design and drawing markup processes
  • Conduct internal review and quality checks of engineering drawings and design calculations to ensure compliance with the project's requirements
  • Deliver technically complete design documentation, summary reports and technical reports for Design Managers
  • Record man-hour charges accurately into weekly timesheets and ensure correctness of project and non-project man-hour charges
  • To be fully utilized.  Always seek new work/tasks from Principal Engineer/Function Leader
  • Resource and develop skills and knowledge base of Design, Assistant and Graduate Engineers assigned to projects
  • Liaise with BIM Manager and BIM Coordinators assigned to projects

  • A logical approach and ability to think through complex issues to co-ordinate multi-faceted aspects of projects

Qualifications


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Hold a bachelor’s degree Mechanical Engineering
  • 8 to 10 years minimum relevant post-graduate experience
  • Wide construction experience having worked on a range of projects - simple to complex, Automotive Industrial projects, and industrial parks projects.
  • Experience in the construction
  • Previous relevant experience in a similar role designing mechanical systems within buildings
  • An understanding of the design of individual elements of a project and how it ultimately interfaces with the client
  • An understanding of budgetary requirements
  • Licensed Registered Mechanical Engineer
  • Master’s degree would be beneficial
  • Full command of verbal and written English communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant design standards and codes.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills with a strong ability to provide leadership and motivation to project mechanical teams. You will work in a multi-disciplined team environment and will be expected to demonstrate a collaborative attitude in working with members of the Team
  • Ability to confidently relate with all levels of staff and clientele - Internal and External
  • Excellent work ethic and desire to succeed
  • Ability to work independently and produce the expected results, with general instructions/guidance from Project Manager
  • Commitment to meeting project deadlines, often times under stringent time constraints 
  • Time management skills for working on several projects at once, prioritizing urgent tasks in line with project schedule requirements
  • Willingness to learn new energy efficient system design
  • Willingness to get involved with engineering and plumbing societies
  • Piping design skills
  • Controls design skills
  • LEED accreditation is a plus
  • Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook for analysis and reporting
  • Knowledgeable in AUTOCAD, REVIT, Navisworks and BIM environment
