The Opportunity

This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario manufacturing site in the Abbott Point of Care (APOC) division.

Our Point of Care diagnostics portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including infectious disease, cardiometabolic, informatics and toxicology.

Reporting to the Business Human Resources Manager (BHRM), the Human Resources Generalist (HRG) supports the BHRM in the delivery of various HR programs and projects for the APOC’s manufacturing site. Responsible for implementing HR processes and providing solutions while taking into consideration our corporate, country and local policies as well as the current legislation.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist, coordinate, and administer various aspects of the organization’s employee relations, compensation and benefits, training, engagement, and HR programs.

  • Implement HR policies and guide managers and employees on the proper adherence to them.

  • Assist the BHRM in coaching and counseling managers in regards of employee relations issues, performance management, career development, etc.

  • Supports employees and managers in navigating the global and local HR resources and processes to ensure that employees can maximize their benefits and utilize them for their development in the organization.

  • Responsible for reviewing Short-Term and Long-Term Disability and providing advice on next steps and recommendation for action.  Work with insurance providers and third-party medical assessment experts in assessing fitness to work.

  • Collaborates with the health & safety manager in managing employee accommodations and in reviewing back-to-work integration plans.

  • Partners with the HR broader team in Canada to assist in the review policies, programs and processes and provide feedback on their effectiveness, relevance, and value to the company’s operations.

  • Ensure information in the HRIS system is consistent with policies and accurate and generate relevant HR reports.  

  • Ensure an effective onboarding & orientation process in collaboration with the departments and those delivering the orientation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree holder or with diploma with studies related to Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Payroll, or other related studies.

  • Canada HR designation will be an asset (CHRP / CHRL), or currently working towards designation.

  • At least 5 years of relevant work in various facets of HR and has developed a specialization in two or more functions of HR. Having a developed capability in the Employee Relations function is an advantage. 

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills in dealing with various people at various levels of the organization complimented with the ability to facilitate productive discussions.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues by analyzing and interpreting data and generating insights with proven problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

  • Proficient in MS-Office applications including PowerPoint, Word, and advance knowledge in Excel. Knowledge of an enterprise HRIS.

  • Excellent English verbal and written communications.  Excellence in French language will be considered an asset.
