This position is responsible for leading the continuous improvement strategies and activities of the site. The
focus will be to lead, roll-out, and implement business wide programs to drive continuous improvement in
Safety, Quality, Deliver, and Cost. This includes facilitating projects and Blitzes as well as assisting with
activities associated to the CI strategy and goals. He or She should promote a continuous learning
environment to ensure for proper training, development, and the use of the methodologies. Execute
responsibilities with a large degree of autonomy requiring minimal oversight by immediate supervisor. Must
engage and gain the support of associates in various positions of responsibility and in various functions
within BD worldwide. This includes associates in these functions who occupy positions of authority that are
equaled to, greater than or less than the incumbent. Incumbent must clearly communicate project plans and
resource requirements to gain the support of these individuals. Deals with a wide variety of processes
including assembly and inspection methods, packaging, and sterilization of which any combination must
meet the integrated requirements of medical use, chemical / biological compatibility, manufacturability, and
acceptable cost. Incumbent should represent BD when interfacing with external vendors / suppliers as
processes are developed and raw materials and capital equipment is purchased. Must understand the

• The CI Manager is the primary responsible of leading the continuous improvement initiatives for the
site.
• Determine the optimal roll-out approach for the deployment at each site in collaboration with CI and
site leadership. Establish both short and long- term (6 months - 3 years) strategies and
implementation plans that will allow leveraging the program and Continuous improvement culture for
sustained and long-term benefit. Also ensures that Best Practices from the BD network are adopted
and leveraged.
• Collaborates with the Business and Plant leadership, to ensure programs/projects deliver on
expectations. Identify gaps and develops plans to mitigate any potential risks. Ensures alignment
with corporate & business expectations on continuous improvement targets.
• Working with site leaders and plant controllers, tracks and validates all improvements and dollar
savings (P&L impact, cost avoidance) attributed to the projects under the continuous improvement
program. This includes incorporating the projects into plant budgets and maintaining/building a
funnel of opportunities for the next 12-36 months.
• Facilitates continuous improvement projects and blitz efforts (Kaizen events) across the site, as
needed. Engage business leaders to identify and utilize respective certified associates to assist in
Blitz events.
• Drives the CI Culture and the understanding and adoption of CI best practices within the site
(includes, but is not limited to: LDMS, KAS, Blitz Events (Kaizen Events), Trainings, and Metrics).
• Trains and sustains the workforce on continuous improvement methodologies, including champion
training materials, train project teams on the use of Lean Six Sigma and other tools such as Process
Optimization, Value Stream Mapping, facilitates project teams and mentor new facilitators/trainers.
• Works with external consultants as needed for specialized training of key plant personnel and then
facilitates broader training by leveraging the initially trained personnel as “trainers.”
