This position will be responsible for process execution, timely and accurate delivery of corporate income tax, withholding tax, freight tax and tax reporting compliances for A.P. Moller Maersk (APMM) entities in LATAM. Successful candidate shall work with business controllers, external service providers, auditors and other professionals in carrying out their responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead a small group of Tax Analysts.

  • Preparation of Corporate Income Tax and Withholding Tax and any other informative returns related to Direct taxes.

  • Calculation of current and deferred Corporate Income Tax, including related  temporary and permanent adjustments.

  • Preparation of group and local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) tax provisions, disclosures, and tax rate reconciliations.

  • Computation of quarterly tax estimates.

  • Preparation and/or review of data required for tax returns, tax payments, group/ local GAAP tax reporting/ disclosures.

  • Own and operate Corporate Tax controls.

  • Analysis, research and support in interpreting tax laws, tax planning, forecasting and deciding tax filing positions.

  • Support tax law changes from compliance, process and systems perspective.

  • Tax audit support and risk management:

    • Tax Risk Management (TRM) process support.

    • Collating and reviewing data/ information required for open tax audits and/or notices.

    • Support on drafting responses to notices/ queries from tax authorities and/or auditors.

    • Designing and preparing audit ready packs with each return.

  • Initiating/ leading/ supporting:

    • Process mapping, designing, standardization, automation, efficiencies and improvement initiatives.

    • Data quality improvement projects/ initiatives.

    • IT system implementations and/or changes.

    • Other tax related projects.

  • Effective, pro-active communication with external and internal stakeholders as necessary, including third-party advisors and owners of upstream processes such as ATR (Accounting), Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Local Statutory Reporting and Group Reporting.

Main requirements

  • College degree is mandatory (ideally in a related field: Business Administration, Economics or Accounting).

  • At least 3 years of experience in one or more of the following fields of one or more LATAM jurisdictions:

    • Direct tax compliance.

    • Direct tax controversy support.

    • Process management and improvement.

  • Knowledge about financial, accounting and tax systems, processes and controls. 

  • Experience working with SAP and Power BI preferred.

  • Experience working with Corporate Tax preparation products preferred.

  • Awareness of or experience with tax compliance & reporting software/ tools.   

  • Mandatory language proficiency: Spanish: native /  English: B2-C1 according to the CEFR scale.

Soft skills required in this role

  • Willingness to learn new applications and explore smarter ways of working.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with different levels of stakeholder, both internal and external.

  • Flexible, able to work to deadlines and to prioritise effectively.

  • Team player, with experience of working in a multi-process environment.
