Purpose
The Senior Business Analyst acts as a Product Owner for the backend system and works with the Business Technology Services (BTS) group and interfaces with business partners to define business and system needs. The ideal candidate is comfortable leading the requirements gathering process and managing the relationship and expectations of the assigned line of business. The Sr. BA will work closely with system owners and development teams to determine best solutions. The Sr. BA also conducts interviews and work sessions to define business and functional requirements and will guide the BA in creating detailed documentation and user stories, based on project needs. To be successful, the Sr. BA must have knowledge of the full software development life cycle including requirements gathering, detailed design definition, solution design, testing, and systems integration. The Sr. BA will also provide guidance and assistance to the Business Analyst and QA team members.
Essential Responsibilities
Participate in all business enhancements on the Global Merchant Accounting System (GMAS), back-end processing and ancillary systems with little to no direction on the majority of projects
Gains an in depth understanding of the various applications supporting the Global Payments’ business
Interacts with internal clients to gather and define business and functional requirements for large initiatives
Analyzes complex system problems with ease and offers alternative business solutions (specifically for new system development and enhancements)
Collaborates with development team to design new and enhanced system functionality
Communicates business and functional specifications to the team and other stakeholders
Facilitates meetings and leads discussions (i.e. business and functional specification reviews, Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions, etc)
Facilitates effective team interaction
Proactively looks for opportunities to improve the system
Seeks opportunities to stay current with industry trends and expand technical expertise
Acts as a Product Owner and take a project through the entire SDLC, whether Waterfall or Agile
Provides complete oversight and performs a thorough gap analysis of all the project deliverables. The intention would be to ensure that there are no deviations from the baselined functional requirements and ensuring that the deliverables meet the business needs
Acts as a broker to assess changes to requirements or scope requested by business partners after the baselining of the business and functional requirements
Plans, documents, executes and supports the User Acceptance Testing efforts relative to all projects by collaborating with the business partners and the QA Team
Will direct the work of other Business Analysts, provide mentoring and/or training as needed
Handle support questions professionally, accurately and timely
Required Qualifications
In depth knowledge of the Merchant Acquiring Business Domain
Ability to understand and gain subject matter expertise in systems supporting the Global Payments Business
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to push creative thinking beyond the boundaries of existing industry practices and client mindsets
Highly effective written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
5-7 years experience in a BSA role within an IT organization
Experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies
