About the role

The Category Development Manager supports top local markets in LATAM to develop the customer-facing category strategy and category tactics to deliver category growth with our customers. You will work closely with BU Marketing team, Global Customer and Channel Directors & Local markets, adapting and localising materials to capitalise on the local category growth drivers. You will also use Shopper Science Lab (SSL) tools & technologies as key enabler of your work & embed this way of working in local markets as business as usual.

The Category Development Manager creates, future thinking, growth enabling category selling stories that can be taken to key customers to position ourselves as partner of choice to grow their categories.

Good understanding of the category value drivers of each will be needed, with science & creativity on how to deliver these across channels. The final deliverable will be inspiring, future thinking Category stories, that can be taken to key customers, to convince them we are partner of choice to grow their categories.

The role will be hands-on, both strategic & operational to ensure that our key market/category cells are leading edge for Category Management with our Customers & driving category growth in the marketplace.

Key responsibilities

· Engaging with identified local and regional market/category cells to understand Category issues & opportunities to drive category growth.

· Localising Global Category Value Drivers to identify size of prize for each one & prioritise which ones to activate by channel/customer, including DCom Channel

· Design strategies & working with local market/category cells to localise the strategy, using a mix of global & local insights.

· Partner with Marketing Cat leads to drive Brand Planning process by channel liaising with Trade marketing, sales and rest of Comex leads

· Use shopper drivers by channel to design fit for purpose channel strategies, portfolios and PPA pipeline working closely with Marketing Cat lead and CBIA.

· Develop and have an updated PPA strategy across key BMC aligned to price tiers, shopper, and channel opportunities.

· Developing tactics across the 6P’s to execute the category value drivers eg. PPA, Range, space, merchandising across channels including DCom.

· Embedding insights already available into the category stories & identifying the insight gaps, where Shopper Science Lab can step in to support.

· Using the tools & technology to support the creation of category tactics eg. Developing optimum layout & flow for the category, conducting portfolio analysis to identify the tail.

· Monitor & measure the impact of the changes in market & create best practice library to share learnings across the region.

· Build capability of Category Development skills in local markets.

Qualifications and skills

· Leadership, ability to lead vs execute, ability to influence/ change agent to work with broader teams

· Experienced in category management, ideally multi-markets, track record of driving strategy and delivery and driving growth.

· Expert in merchandising, assortment/planning with retails and cross-channels (Modern, Pharmacy, Ind. Ch and Dcom)

· Experienced in FMCG/consumer goods industry.

· Experience of gathering & digesting several sources of insight & turning it into concrete profitable actions.

· They must also have experience of setting merchandising visions & conducting range reviews with customers.

· The candidate for this role needs to be highly collaborative, a good communicator with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude. They will be dealing with senior internal & external stakeholders.

· The person must be a great influencer so there will be a high need to champion CatMan & change processes & behaviours.

· Marketing or trade marketing experience are preferable.

· External mindset: Focus on market share gain

· Strong analytical skills
