Director, Lilly Marketing Studios, Lilly Capability Center India

Purpose:

The Lilly Capability Center India (LCCI) was setup in Bengaluru in 2016 to support Eli Lilly and Company’s global pharmaceutical footprint across R&D, Commercial and Technology services. As of early 2024, we are close to 3000 people strong, successfully delivering and innovating for Lilly global and affiliates in a wide range of areas. More than 550 professionals focus on Commercial services, who work closely with Marketing, Sales, and other customer-facing functions.

The Lilly Marketing Studios organization (LMS) at LCCI is a global team that helps in delivery of marketing services including creative development, claims ownership, editing, digital production and management. LMS is one of the most mature organizations in terms of scale, capability, process maturity etc. at LCCI. LMS is currently embracing new ways of working for content and tactic creation, review and approval, and production through various initiatives such accelerating content build through a modularized content ecosystem, optimizing content approval, and AI.

Director, Lilly Marketing Studios, will lead a large (~200) multi-functional, multi-faceted team (spanning across brix, LUSA marketing operations – Editorial, Quality and Compliance, Project Management, Digital Production, and Creative Services) with primary focus on the US and transforming to support the globe through accelerating reach and scale initiatives.

This position reports to the Head of Global Commercial Services, LCCI, with a dotted line to the AVP, Marketing Operations, LMS.

Responsibilities:
 

Program/ Project Delivery:

  • Lead high quality delivery on LMS overall – LUSA marketing execution and new modularized content delivery ecosystem – brix. Deliver class leading marketing operations execution across our LCCI Lilly India E2E team and our US Agile Teams to ensure quality, speed, value and compliance throughout the Customer Information Materials Lifecycle
  • Actively lead and drive change through LMS/brix in 2024-25 leading a strong leadership team of Associate Directors. Partner with leadership in US, brands/stakeholders and other capabilities teams to drive content effectiveness and acceleration this year and next.
  • Drive our teams to execute with world class consistency across our marketing operations platforms (e.g. VVPM, and WRIKE)
  • Know and fully understand Lilly’s processes, brand strategies and tactics and support resources to effectively coach team and remove barriers by understanding Lilly’s culture, org structure, roles and practices, demonstrating working knowledge of medical, legal and regulatory areas, having a thorough understanding of Lilly’s quality processes and being capable of understanding and applying these processes and requirements.
  • Create and lead a culture of integrity by understanding and executing against external requirements (e.g., Federal, State, PhRMA code), proactively coaching to ensure adherence to Lilly policies/procedures (e.g., CIQ, Red Book) and fostering an environment conducive for utilizing Speaking Up resources when necessary.
  • Ensure quality, speed, value and compliance throughout the Customer Information Materials Lifecycle
    • Follow basic project management principles when leading special projects.
    • Identify improvement opportunities and remove barriers
    • Oversee capacity planning and resourcing and look for capacity utilization across the LMS organization.
    • Uphold Lilly policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrate ability to partner effectively across functions by cultivating a strong network of cross-functional colleges.
    • Facilitate shared learning forums to identify challenges and establish best practices across the team
    • Build goals and manage metrics associated with the quality, speed, value, and compliance of their individual reports (e.g. cycle time, rework, throughput, deviations)

Stakeholder Management and People Leadership Expectations:

  • Live the Lilly Leadership Principles: Connect with People, Be Determined and Drive Continuous Improvement
  • Serve as trusted career advisor, and work with Functional Leadership and HR to identify career opportunities for team members, both systemically (career path development) and with individuals as needed.
  • Use situational leadership to adapt leadership style for each individual
  • Develop a pipeline of Lilly Marketing studios talent and leadership and continually focus on succession planning and talent management.
  • Manage headcount, GenOpex, and organizational targets as required.
  • Identify, recruit and select top talent and make sure of a strong new-hire onboarding process
  • Actively lead and execute competency-based coaching and development, lean in on talent development with our marketing operations competency model as our guide
  • Provide leadership on standardizing frameworks for communication, project management and execution across capability groups and business-focused teams.
  • Foster a culture of strong collaboration within teams across Analytics and insights, Omnichannel / Tech@ lilly and other commercial teams as appropriate.
  • Lead pan-commercial initiatives, working closely with the head of global commercial services.
  • Monitor employee engagement and team health
  • Utilize myPM process to operationalize organizational goals for team members
  • Partner with direct reports to create individual development planning/action planning
  • Conduct effective one-on-one coaching sessions using the Lilly coaching framework by encouraging two-way dialog and open feedback, listening actively, being flexible and identifying knowledge, skill and performance gaps.

Strategic Growth and Thought Leadership and Innovation

  • Network with industry experts and external consultants as needed to develop, test, and implement new approaches and solutions for content capabilities at LCCI
  • Network across affiliates, other relevant functions, and key internal leaders to understand opportunities for continuous improvement and effectiveness.
  • Be a source of ideas and liaise across areas of responsibility.
  • Provide coaching and oversight of core methodologies and approaches with appropriate data requirements to enable decision making
  • Integrate AI into LMS daily workflow to drive speed and productivity gains and explore new tools to improve efficiency and reduce work for LMS employees
  • Contribute to efforts to identify, build, test, and evaluate new technology and ways of working to drive efficiency and speed in content approval while maintaining compliance
  • Evaluate global (e.g. IBU) requirements, tools and processes to identify opportunities for synergy, efficiency or integration

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a Business Management/ Pharma/ Social Sciences/ B.E./ Tech/ Engg.
  • 16+ years overall management/delivery experience with 12+ years with operational project/program management delivery accountability, with a majority in progressive execution and leadership of complex Commercial operations/ using a wide variety of cutting-edge tools and technologies.
  • Should have vast experience in leading programs that focus on end-to-end development of content management projects (such as HQ Emails, Banners, IVAs, VAEs, SOA tactics, Landing pages, websites, others)
  • Proven program leadership and change management skills to enable successful overall delivery in a dynamic environment in a large matrixed team and virtual / hybrid work models
  • Experience in leading a large team of > 100 resources, scalable upwards is preferred.
  • Strong focus on developing Digital assets for the team. This requires a thorough understanding of Digital landscape in Marketing operations and ability with understanding of tactic development best practices.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration and decision making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build professional networks with diverse groups of individuals and to work effectively within geographically dispersed teams and partners
  • Proven program leadership and change management skills to enable successful overall delivery in a dynamic environment in a large matrixed team and virtual / hybrid work models
  • Experience, with certifications, of leading project management on large marketing programs in Agile/Scrum setups, using JIRA or other relevant platforms.
  • Experience of setting up operational scorecards, dashboards, storytelling with data, governance and stakeholder management
  • Exceptional communication skills

Additional skills/preferences

  • MBA or master’s or any relevant advanced degree
  • Advanced certifications in Process Improvement (Lean Six Sigma etc)
  • Experience in the pharma commercial landscape and operations preferred
  • Established thought leader with demonstrated ability to think strategically and solve problems
  • Understanding of current and possibilities in analytical capabilities and technologies relevant to marketing and sales
  • Ability to see possibilities beyond current systems and process
  • Strong passion for capability development; experience working within integrated/shared work environments
  • Demonstrated ability to influence beyond organizational and BU boundaries
  • Ability to drive decisions and results
  • International business experience and willingness to travel
