This role in summary
Whirlpool is looking for a Subsystem Lead Engineering. The role is located in the Global Product Organization within the Refrigeration Platform. The engineer will be responsible for Mechanical Structures subsystem deliverables, including development, execution, verification and validation, working with global cross functional teams during various phases of projects and across various technologies such as structural mechanics, plastic design and sheet metal design.
Your responsibilities will include
System level or Sub system level advisor on the execution of technology programs and projects with proper controls and management of technical risks to ensure work is planned and conducted on a sound engineering basis in their discipline space.
Accountable for Technical Design Previews (TDP) project sign-off that attribute targets were achieved and work was completed on a sound engineering basis
Globally accountable for system level attribute performance to enable product leadership
Major contributor on technical strategy and development on technology programs to pass key tollgates G2 and before
Lead systemic problem solving efforts input to close knowledge gaps in major subsystems in the development of more robust system models
Accountable to develop technology roadmaps to identify gaps, and execute/support priorities to close
Key technical leadership through contribution to the development of the IP portfolio, patent attainment, and achievement of sustainable technology advantage
Develop technical expertise throughout the organization, through coaching, mentoring, development, and infusion of new technologies
Leverages knowledge through key suppliers and liaison to other external organizations
70% leading development work on critical subsystem priorities and 30% proactive technical coaching
Handle multiple projects simultaneously and drive them to implementation using the concurrent engineering mindset by closely working with key stakeholders such as system integrators, cooling and thermal subsystems, industrial engineers, marketing, verification & validation team, controls, sourcing and procurement, manufacturing, etc
Lead Development of detailed design considering key metrics (material, manufacturability (DFM, DFA), cost, aesthetics, craftsmanship, safety, etc
Use of OPEx (Six Sigma) tools and fundamentals to drive product development. Use of critical thinking, Design of Experiments (DOEs), Component of Variations (COVs), Thought Maps, Process Maps, etc
Minimum requirements
Masters in Mechanical Engineering or related field, PhD in Engineering a plus
7+ years Engineering & Technical experience in product development
Top down system level knowledge, QFD to FMEA to DVP
Expert in Tol Stack, FMEA, Opec (Six Sigma), Plastic and Metal component design
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Actions and Results oriented
Project Management experience
Subsystems level development experience
