Job Description
Reporting organisationally to the Executive Director of Stakeholder Relations of FIFA26 MEX, the Sustainability & Human Rights Manager will be a key member of the FIFA26 Strategy & Planning team, and work in close collaboration with the FIFA26 Sustainability & Human Rights team in Miami, the FIFA Social Responsibility & Education Division and other key individuals responsible for supporting the delivering the FIFA World Cup 26TM Sustainability & Human Rights Strategy across the Host Country of Mexico.
THE POSITION
The main responsibilities and oversights of the Sustainability & Human Rights Manager for the FIFA World Cup 26™ include:
• Help develop and oversee programs as per the FIFA World Cup 26TM Sustainability & Human Rights Strategy related Human Rights, environmental, and economic challenges and opportunities in Mexico;
• Engage local and national sustainability and Human Rights stakeholders in Mexico, including both governmental and non-governmental actors;
• In close collaboration with the FIFA World Cup 26 Head of Human Rights in Miami, engage with Host City Committees in Mexico on Human Rights efforts within their areas of responsibility as per the FWC26 Host City Human Rights Framework for the tournament and the Host City Human Rights Action Plans;
• Support FIFA and FIFA26 Inc. in the handling of grievances, complaints, and campaigns related to FWC2026 in Mexico;
• In close collaboration with the FIFA World Cup 26 Head of Environment in Miami, liaise with Host City and Stadium Environmental Focal Points on environmental matters as per the Sustainability & Human Rights Strategy and the Host City Environmental Plans;
• Advise FIFA and FIFA26 Inc. on the evolving sustainability and Human Rights regulatory and political landscape in Mexico;
• Work with the FIFA26 Supply Chain Manager – Environment & Human Rights on integrating Sustainability & Human Rights criteria in procurement processes for the FIFA World Cup in Mexico;
• Assist with providing information to media enquiries, in particular from Mexican media;
• Assist in planning and coordinating of meetings, workshops and site visits;
• Support the delivery of the tournament’s Sustainability & Human Rights reporting throughout the project.
YOUR PROFILE
Minimum requirements
• A bachelor's degree in social studies, Human Rights, environmental sciences or similar
• Fluent in Spanish and English.
• At least five years of professional experience in the field of Human Rights and environmental sustainability;
• Concrete knowledge and work with Mexican legislation and issues related to Human Rights and the environment;
• Strong knowledge of stakeholders in Mexico and proven track-record in fostering, building and maintaining relationships with groups of environmental and Human Rights experts and/or stakeholders;
• Experience in creating project concepts and coordinating their implementation;
• Experience in working remotely from headquarters and team; Preferred additional experience:
• International work experience, especially with the United States and with working as part of a multi-cultural team;
• Experience in the areas of anti-discrimination, accessibility and safeguarding;
• Experience in the areas of biodiversity protection, circular economy, green building certification and climate change;
• Work and living experience in the three Mexican Host Cities;
• A master's degree in social studies, Human Rights, environmental sciences or similar
• Experience in the field of sport, ideally in connection with a mega-sporting event;
• Strong knowledge of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights;
• Experience processing grievances as part of an operational-level grievance mechanism;
• Familiarity with sustainability management systems
• Operational experience working in stadiums and arenas;
• Experience in reporting against international standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative
