Job Description Summary
The Lead Project Engineer is responsible of providing technical guidance for and/or leading large projects related to Air Starters for industrial applications. He/she works with the areas involved in the Product Development Process (manufacturing, sourcing, quality, etc.) to meet customer requirements; and is in direct contact with the customer.
Job Description
Provide technical guidance for and/or Lead Projects throughout the whole product development process; utilizing experience to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others. The projects shall meet GE policies, standards, procedures, specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements.
Tasks include:
Lead the solution of complex technical problems & projects:
Define technical schedule, cost, and program requirements.
Assess customer requirements
Design mechanical and electromechanical components for Air Starters as per customer requirements
Integrate mechanical and electromechanical components or systems into the final application.
Read and understand FEA results
Ensure timely communication to stakeholders
Track and communicate project status to leadership
Ensure quality, schedule and cost requirements are met
Ensure the proper documentation of the technical information generated for the projects, and as per the engineering procedures and policies
Prepare and present technical reviews (internal and to end customer)
Support test plans, procedures and reports (for qualification and/or development)
Solve customer issues and service requests (lead and implement)
Support field issues as required
Coach or mentor others thru the product development process
Support MRB substantiation
These activities can be part of a New Product Introduction or a Legacy component. For either, the Project Engineer is responsible of knowing and executing as per the applicable processes.
The Project Engineer shall be able to concurrently work on multiple projects, monitoring progress and quality, and ensuring schedule requirements are met.
Qualifications / Requirements
BS degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical or related field
Effective and assertive written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish
Must be able to maintain technical conversations in English
GD&T intermediate knowledge
Proficiency in design and analysis tools such as Unigraphics NX and ANSYS
Understanding of rotative component design and starting systems
Proficiency in design change substantiation
Proven contributions in a similar role or function
Intermediate technical knowledge of common manufacturing methods for mechanical products such as machining, casting, bending, welding, brazing, rolling, etc.
Presentation Skills: Ability to communicate across functions
Strong understanding of Project Management principles
Strong problem-solving skills with guidance
Able to manage own projects and tasks (Project Management mid to high level of knowledge)
Mid to high level of knowledge on manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, forge, extrusions, stamping
Desired Characteristics
Experience in industrial mechanical design
Knowledgeable in design and selection of Rotating machinery components. (i.e., Gearboxes, Bearings, Rotors, Seals, lubricants, etc.)
Knowledgeable of new product development and certification processes
Basic electronics and programming skills
Experienced in driving productivity (Cost-out) efforts.
